Transfusion-associated graft versus host disease (TA-GVHD) is a rare but often fatal complication where donor T-lymphocytes in transfused blood components mount an immune response against recipient tissues. Immunocompromised recipients such as oncology patients are especially at risk for TA-GVHD, though it has also been observed in patients who are immunocompetent.
