INTERCEPT Blood System for Red Blood Cells

The INTERCEPT™ Blood System for red blood cells was designed with the following blood safety and availability goals in mind:
- Reduce the transmission risk for a large spectrum of red blood cell (RBC) pathogens, including agents for which testing does not exist
- Improve blood availability by reducing donor deferrals
- Replace gamma irradiation for prevention of transfusion-associated graft versus host disease (TA-GVHD)
- Reduce potential transfusion reactions with decreased residual plasma
- Reduce potential transfusion reactions with decreased potassium levels
- Offer superior cell quality compared to gamma-irradiated products
- Minimise haemoglobin loss
