Frequency of Bacterial Contamination

Studies have shown that the frequency of platelet concentrates (PC) contaminated with bacteria is quite high. These studies found that even for PCs tested for bacteria, the risk of bacterial infection is as high as 1 in 1,500 products¹. Depending on the number of PCs a patient receives in the course of treatment, the risk of receiving contaminated PCs can be much higher.
